An External Hard Drive (EHD) allows you to expand the disk storage of a DVR (Hopper, 922, 722k, 722, 622, 612), or enable the DVR feature on some receiver models (211k, 211, 411). The EHD must have its own power supply, support USB 2.0, and have only a single hard disk drive (flash memory is not compatible).
Plug the EHD into the wall outlet, use the USB cable to connect it to the receiver.
When you plug the EHD into the receiver’s USB port, you will be prompted with a “Warning” message. In the top right hand corner should be the number 865. This message is just letting you know that the receiver has detected your EHD and is ready to format and install the software needed to use it with your receiver. Select “yes” to begin the process. A second message, 867, will appear, letting you know the receiver will format the hard drive and reset the receiver, select “yes” again.
An “attention” message numbered 869 or 873 will appear while the receiver is working, please do not restart, turn off or disturb the receiver or EHD while it is on the screen.
Once the process is completed, your receiver will automatically reset. When it turns back on, your EHD will be ready for use!

DISH Network’s new Hopper whole-home DVR system wowed the crowds at the 2012 International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology trade show. Along with the 2TB hard drive and the innovative “Joey” client receivers, which allow you to bring the TV and DVR in up to four rooms of your house, the new PrimeTime Anytime feature was very impressive.
The Hopper’s exclusive PrimeTime Anytime feature gives you instant OnDemand access to three hours per night of HD primetime programming on ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC. These shows will be available for up to 8 days from the initial due date. No more having to remember to set your DVR or having to choose between your favorite shows. Best of all you still have two tuners to use to record or watch other shows during primetime, and it doesn’t take up any of your personal DVR space, so you still have enough room for over 250 hours of HD programming available.
The opportunity to watch all of the best primetime shows OnDemand and still watch and record other programming, all while conserving space on the 2TB hard drive? Sounds like the perfect solution for the TV lover in all of us!

As well DirecTV’s DVR falling far short of the 722k HD DVR, DirecTV’s Nomad service doesn’t even begin to compare to the TV Everywhere. DirecTV claims you can use Nomad to watch recorded content anywhere at any time, but before you can even begin watching you have to download your DVR content in real time. That means to download a one hour TV show can take over an hour! And you can’t even view live TV. With a DISH DVR and a Sling you can truly have all TV, recorded and live, with you instantly on your mobile devices.
