The excitement is continuing to build as the 2013-2014 TV season unveils old favorites and new shows week by week with the kickoff of Fall 2013. Dramas and comedies pretty much form the basis of new shows every year, and this season is looking to stay within that line. Everyone has enough drama in their life to deal with, so we at Cannon thought we would outline a set of new comedies that are set to premier in October (which may be arriving sooner than you think).

Super Fun Night (ABC, Oct. 2)

Rebel Wilson, who gained big fame after big hits like Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect is back with a new show written by and starring her titled Super Fun Night. The premise sounds simple enough: A bunch of women reserve every Friday night for a mix of rowdy fun and possible trouble. Everything goes smoothly until the lead character played by Wilson decides to invite an attorney along for the ride, potentially compromising the integrity of the famed Friday night.

Welcome to the Family (NBC, Oct. 3)

Mike O’Malley, that guy that you see in all kinds of commercials and shows everywhere is back in another show from NBC titled Welcome to the Family. The show sounds to be a comedic Romeo and Juliet story that has been simmered down for the primetime crowd. Two children of differing families begin to date – one Latino, the other Caucasian – and eventually decide to marry after pregnancy ensues. The result is a pushed cohesion of the two families, and all of the shenanigans ensue.

Sean Saves the World (NBC, Oct. 3)

Already immortalized from Will and Grace fame, Sean Hayes is taking back the screen this season with Sean Saves the World sounds to be a classic family balance story, caught up with the modern times. With other shows like Modern Family tackling and bringing issues of LGBT parents and families to the main screen, Sean Saves the World looks to be continuing the momentum.

Hayes plays Sean, successful at his job and recently divorced. His daughter comes into his life, and accepts his role and responsibility as a father. Demands from work pile high, and we witness Sean take on the responsibilities of single fatherhood and professional. Sounds to carry the safe comedy formula that other primetime networks have caught onto, but Hayes is likely to give a great performance.

The Michael J. Fox Show (NBC)

Michael J. Fox has proven over and over again that Parkinson’s Disease doesn’t have to mean the end of the road. He has appeared in various shows and films since revealing his disease more than a decade ago (though he has had it since 1991), and now he is back in his own premier show on NBC. He plays Mike Henry, a popular news anchor who is forced to leave his position after getting Parkinson’s. After a few years out of the loop, he decides to get back in to the game, with the trials and tribulations you might expect.

The Millers (CBS)

Loaded with plenty of familiar faces, The Millers is another family-based (but probably not appropriate) series staring Will Arnett, Beau Bridges and Margo Martindale (with others). One divorce follows another divorce all within the same family, and complications arise from all four corners.

TV critics and straight-up TV junkies alike often can’t wait for the upcoming projects green-lighted by HBO. While many American viewers have developed addictions to shows such as Game of Thrones, The Newsroom, and True Blood, the end of 2013 into 2014 is bringing a series of several promising projects with a string of well-known actors, veteran writers, assisted by novels familiarized throughout the past decade. Some drama, some comedy – this is a list of future shows planned for HBO that have been green-lit for airing.

True Detective

Starring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, True Detective will span across seventeen years in the swampy depths of Lousiana as Harrelson and McConaughey star as two state detectives tracking down an elusive serial killer. The skeletal plot sounds simple enough, but with those involved with the project, this is sure to a strong crime drama that HBO would only be able to pull off.

Hello Ladies

The long-time associate of Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant is back with what is being hailed as a “cringe comedy”. Though it often seems that Gervais and Merchant are inseparable (an of course we can’t forget about Karl Pilkington), it sounds like Gervais has no association with Hello Ladies. The comedy will center on Merchant, who plays a British (of course) web programmer who has recently moved to Los Angeles with the expectation that the city is just as glamourous as has been portrayed. Looking for love turns out to be a miserable process, as the show follows his exploits around LA. Knowing the mind of Merchant at work, this has the potential to bring a new dynamic to the romantic comedy, if that’s what you want to call it.

Silicon Valley

Mike Judge (Office Space, Bevis and Butthead) is back with is sure to be Office Space on steroids. Not much has been released about Silicon Valley, but the description has gone like this: “…where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success.” Shooting has already begun, but nothing is known about when this show is set to air. Knowing the creative force of Mike Judge, Silicon Valley could very well be hard to miss.

The Missionary

Fans of Breaking Bad on AMC won’t have to be quick to miss Walter White’s sidekick Jesse Pinkman, played by Aaron Paul. Paul is rumored to be the star of a show recently ordered by HBO called The Missionary. Paul is to play an executive for Coca-Cola in Berlin during the 1960s at the height of the Cold War. While handling big business, the executive also doubles up with the CIA to help citizens of the Eastern Bloc to escape Communist rule. Charles Randolph and Mark Wahlberg are behind the project, and both have had their share of experience with HBO.

Swamplandia!

Based off of a book by Karen Russell, Swamplania! will focus on the Bigtree family and their bizarre Florida tourist attraction that is infested with alligators. The book was highly regarded when it came out two years ago, and the plan to adapt it onto the screen came pretty quickly after. Nothing much is known about this adaptation, but plenty of people have been talking about it.
